Implementing bar-coding in your warehouse can achieve some or all of the following benefits:

  • Increase speed of processing
  • Simplify transactions
  • Automate processes
  • Improve inventory accuracy
  • Reduce resourcing levels through handling efficiencies
  • Optimise warehouse space
  • Simplify FIFO processing
  • Automatically record batch and serial numbers
  • Introduce perpetual inventory

How does it work?

Goods receipt

Goods receipt into the warehouse can be accomplished as fast as the operator can operate the hand held terminals that verify and forward the transaction data to the SAP server. The Wireless Warehouse is designed to ensure that any delays or errors experienced by the SAP server, including its unavailability, do not impact on the goods receivers’ ability to process their receipts.

The Wireless Warehouse incorporates bar code label printing which can be attached to pallets and boxes and then used for processing all further goods movements.

Stock put-away

Stock items can be put away into any type of location, including bins, racks, floor space etc. Each location is bar-coded and the warehouse operative records the stock put-away simply by scanning the stock location and entering the quantity.

Stock movements

The wireless warehouse automates and simplifies stock movements and in doing so improves stock / inventory accuracy. Warehouse operatives simply scan the stock item they plan to move, the ‘to’ and ‘from’ stock locations and Wireless Warehouse creates all of the transactions data to update SAP.
  Storage locations

Warehouse locations are bar-coded and can include goods receiving locations, dispatch locations and marshalling bays; the physical attributes can include floor space, bins and racks etc and goods movements in and out of theses locations are registered by the warehouse operatives so that stock items can be tracked and traced throughout the entire warehouse.

Picking

As stock is picked against a pick order the warehouse operative verifies the stock item number, the bin location and the quantity to pick and then confirms the pick when he has finished. Each step of the picking process is validated by scanning the bar-codes and checking them to ensure correspondence.

Goods dispatch / Delivery processing

Delivery processing controls the dispatch process. Once items have been picked and moved to the goods dispatch area, the stock items are scanned as they are loaded onto the transport prior to confirming the ‘post goods issue’ transaction to SAP.
